Maintenance Supervisor

Summary: Oversee the care, repair, and upkeep of The Works Museum buildings, grounds and equipment. This position ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and volunteers. Performs maintenance tasks while also supervising maintenance staff, coordinating outside contractors, and maintaining compliance with safety regulations. Assists with security and emergency response matters as well as support for rental properties as directed.
 
Major Responsibilities

  • Supervise and schedule maintenance staff, contractors, and custodial support.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and inspections.
  • Oversee building cleanliness and appearance, including custodial tasks, groundskeeping, snow removal, etc.
  • Monitor and perform general repairs and preventative maintenance for building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, and other mechanicals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, codes, museum policies, and all necessary state certifications.
  • Respond to maintenance and repair requests in a timely manner to ensure smooth museum operations.
  • Collaborate with the Museum Manager to prioritize and plan maintenance projects.
  • Assist the Assistant Executive Director with building security matters, capital projects, and facility maintenance as directed.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and supply inventories, purchase materials as necessary and appropriate to the maintenance and cleaning needs of the facility.
  • Support the set-up and tear down of museum programs, events, and facility rentals.
  • Coordinate with the Glass Studio staff regarding specialized facility needs.
  • Provide assistance with rental properties at the direction of Office Administrator.
  • Respond to alarm calls and building emergencies as needed or assigned (e.g., HVAC issues, weather incidents, or urgent building needs).

Work in the spirit of The Works team environment to support other staff and provide support for programs, activities, and other duties as needed and assigned.

Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 8:00AM – 4:30PM, with flexibility for evenings, Sundays, and special events as required.

Qualifications
  • Commitment to safety, security, and creating a clean, functional, and welcoming environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in building maintenance, repair, and facilities management.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and general repair practices.
  • Excellent communication, strong organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks related to maintenance work.
  • Must participate in annual employee training, including diversity awareness, professional development, and other training as required.
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification, including use of an AED.
Education/Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or technical certification preferred
Experience 
  • 5+ years experience in facility maintenance,  supervisory experience preferred.
