Tour: 12:30 PM at the Octagon Earthworks (FREE to attend)
The Octagon Earthworks, part of the Newark Earthworks complex, consists of two connected enclosures, a 20-acre circle and a 50-acre octagon, positioned above the Raccoon Creek floodplain. Open for full public access since January 1, 2025, this remarkable site showcases the advanced planning and astronomical alignment of the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks. Every 18.6 years, the moon rises directly through the passageway connecting the Observatory Circle and the Octagon, reflecting the genius, cooperation, and devotion of the American Indian peoples who built it thousands of years ago.
Tour is FREE to attend. Please register so we can give an accurate headcount.
Tour will happen rain or shine, so please dress accordingly.
